Phillip Alexander Downie is a dynamic advocate for underserved and intersectional communities, an award-winning event producer, and a celebrated media creator. As the Executive Director of Live In Your Truth, he combines nearly two decades of expertise in event production, advocacy, and business development to design transformative programs, safe spaces, and opportunities that empower LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and other marginalized individuals.
Under his leadership, Live In Your Truth has become a catalyst for social change, driving initiatives that uplift and support LGBTQIA+ individuals and families. Mr. Downie also plays a central role in coordinating Montgomery County's largest Pride celebrations, ensuring visibility and resources for marginalized communities while fostering connections across the region.
Mr. Downie’s career is marked by innovation and excellence. His work has been recognized with honors like a Governor’s Citation and a Gold Telly Award for his visionary programming. His Emmy-nominated series, LIYT Nights & Drag Duels, showcases his ability to merge artistry with advocacy to amplify underrepresented voices.
A skilled television host and executive producer, Mr. Downie has created impactful media projects for DCTV and Montgomery Municipal Cable Television (MMCTV) outlets. His programs provide platforms for minority business owners and highlight the challenges and triumphs of historically marginalized communities. Through these endeavors, he fosters authentic storytelling and builds connections that inspire change.
Beyond media and advocacy, Mr. Downie served as a co-chair for Montgomery County’s Anti-Hate Task Force, creating instrumental policy measures to fight hate crimes and bias incidences. He currently spearheads the development of a physical LGBTQIA+ Pride Resource Center in Montgomery County, MD. Modeled after the Live In Your Truth provision of services, this community resource center will serve as a hub for support, holistic linkage to care and wellness resources, as well as advocacy and arts and culture organizations serving Montgomery County and the region.
